I hate when the lessons are easy but the assessment is a hundred times more difficult. Where the fuck am I supposed to have learned this stuff?
This is why I failed o chem 2 and Calc 2 a million years ago, I didn't know how to learn beyond the syllabus/lessons then and I still don't know now.

@Cyannin What are you stuck on?
sometimes I hate learning -
@Cyannin ohhh shit I just looked up .includes() and yeah js is not my strong point. There are a lot of js wizards here though! Always nice to get another perspective
sometimes I hate learning -
@Cyannin I will also only add that I know a few languages to greater and lesser degrees (python, c++, PHP, perl, bash, etc) and js has never made any kind of sense to me. I know it's supposed to be "easy" but sometimes I think peoples' brains are just wired diferently
sometimes I hate learning -
@pagrus I will try to be reassured by this. Whatever brain wrote this assessment is on a completely different planet than mine 😐
sometimes I hate learning -
@Cyannin take comfort in the fact you will be able to look back on this and be like yep I was totally right, even knowing what I know now
sometimes I hate learning -
@Cyannin If that is in fact any comfort at all
sometimes I hate learning -
@pagrus this is making me have so much doubt in myself, I don't know if I'll ever be able to look back at all.
This entire course is mostly JS. The goal is to be marketable with React. I don't know if I'm cut out for this. I guess tomorrow I can chat with one of the "technical coaches".
sometimes I hate learning -
@Cyannin As someone with a fear/distrust of js and js frameworks, my advice is this: power through it, do the course, get what you can out of it. Take advantage of their job placement resources. You are 100% capable of it
sometimes I hate learning -
@pagrus I just don't know how to power through if I can't do the work. I'm trying. I've been staring at this problem for 5-6 hours (plus several breaks).
I have to pass an hour-long live JS assessment sometime in the next week, as well as a pretty big "take-home challenge".
If I don't pass the assessment, I get booted but at least I get most of my money back... Guess we'll see.

@Cyannin What do think would help? Tutorials? Study buddy?
sometimes I hate learning -
@Cyannin there is no such thing as cheating
sometimes I hate learning -
@pagrus well I just copied and pasted the answers so this is timely, lmao.
I couldn't even retype them correctly and idk why, it really looked the same.
I guess I'll rewrite these a few times until at least I'm familiar with the syntax.
sometimes I hate learning -
@Cyannin your environment can help or hinder you. they might suggest an ide or whaever but the best thing is texteditor/wordpad/vim
sometimes I hate learning -
@pagrus yeah there's a lot of practice in replit and assessments in a built-in ide that isn't too bad (I like how things change color) but when I'm really struggling, I've been hand-writing things out!
I'm not familiar with vim, I will check it out!
...I see it also has colors, haha, cool
sometimes I hate learning -
@Cyannin Well please keep posting when you run into walls or whatever. If you would like js people to connect with I can ask around
sometimes I hate learning -
@pagrus better instructing maybe? I don't really know. I have never done well with study groups. I tried finding an outside tutorial but everything is either too shallow or too complicated, nothing was really relevant. I might go back and repeat the lessons I already did.
I don't know how to learn what I don't know here and that's the worst, I'm usually good at that - but JS feels so random. I hate how everyone writes it differently.
sometimes I hate learning -
@pagrus it's Javascript. Which is supposed to be the easy intro so I'm feeling really not cut out for this.
